This past 28th and 29th of June, Osa Birds was excited to have the opportunity to be invited by the folks from Swarovski Optik to join our local partners Finca Cántaros Environmental Association from San Vito and naturalist guides from the area to conduct a BioBlitz on Swarovski’s newly acquired 115 hectare property in the Mogos region up at the top of the Golfo Dulce. A BioBlitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible (birds, mammals, plants, insects, amphibians, and reptiles) in a specific area over a short period of time, usually 24 hours. In our case we turned the Bioblitz into a two-day event! We reported all of our observations into the citizen science platforms eBird and iNaturalist Costa Rica. You can find our eBird Trip Report here. The Osa Birds Team included me, Karen, Yolanda Rodriguez, Nuria Ureña and Neftali Chavarría, all great birders and naturalists!
All total we counted over 100 species of birds including the elusive Choco Screech Owl (Megascops centralis), the regional endemic White-crested Coquette (Lophornis adorabilis) and the Osa endemic Black-cheeked Ant-Tanager (Habia atrimaxillaris).

El pasado 28 y 29 de junio, Osa Birds se entusiasmó al tener la oportunidad de ser invitado por la gente de Swarovski Optik para unirse a nuestros socios locales Finca Cántaros Asociación Ambiental de San Vito y guías naturalistas del área para realizar un BioBlitz en el nuevo Swarovski adquirió una propiedad de 115 hectáreas en la región de Mogos arriba del Golfo Dulce. Un BioBlitz es un evento que se enfoca en encontrar e identificar tantas especies como sea posible (aves, mamíferos, plantas, insectos, anfibios y reptiles) en un área específica durante un período corto de tiempo, generalmente 24 horas. ¡En nuestro caso convertimos el Bioblitz en un evento de dos días!
